Nuna is looking for an Safety Manager for the Edmonton Corporate Offices to be the people leader and technical expert in Nuna’s safety management and execution. The position is responsible for ensuring the company’s HSE management system is implemented successfully on project sites while maintaining alignment with client and area jurisdiction requirements.Some of what Nuna offers:

Responsibilities:Some Key Responsibilities:Management and development of project HSE teams:

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure the successful delivery, implementation and administration of the company’s HSE Management System on project sites.
  • Supervise, lead and mentor HSE Advisors. Set and communicate goals, strategic direction and priorities to ensure success. Ensure plans are consistent with overall company HSE strategy and corporate mandates.

Implement strategies and processes to proactively reduce project safety risks.

  • Develop and implement strategies that are aligned with corporate and client initiatives to proactively reduce risk and potential loss exposures on projects.
  • Act as a change agent to integrate HSE processes consistent with corporate initiatives into projects.

Implement and monitor the company’s HSE management system on project sites:

  • Act as a subject matter expert in HSE systems, policies procedures, programs, client, and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Lead by demonstrating the required behaviours, attitudes, and mindset to further develop an already strong company safety culture.

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on HSE performance and related activities:

  • Foster strong and lasting relationships and ensure continued success of company’s safety performance. Stakeholders can include but are not limited to senior and project management, front line supervision, company departments, and divisions clients and government agencies.

Monitor project safety performance and trends, identifying gaps or areas for improvement.

  • Perform regular audits and monitoring HSE performance on projects to identify areas for improvement and ensure that appropriate corrective or preventative actions are taken, including, follow up reviews.

Qualifications:Work Experience:

  • Eight (8) years of experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Health, Safety & Environment.
  • Industrial construction and/or mining industry experience preferred.
  • Experience leading or managing projects.
  • Experience leading significant incident investigations.
  • Experience dealing with regulating bodies.

Education:

  • Related post-secondary education or equivalent experience related to Health, Safety & Environment.
  • Designation as an HSE professional (CRSP) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Strong and collaborative ability to use information available to make decisions and act decisively.

  • Proven ability to remain objective and calm under pressure.
  • Proven ability to conduct research and find information.
  • Understanding of strategic long-term vision.

  • Understanding of managing resources and funds for the function.
  • Knowledge of motivational principles and methods and how to provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Knowledge of ethical issues and legal regulations when dealing with personnel and human resources issues.
