Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm ET
Our client with the Ontario government is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their rapidly expanding team. This position will focus on developing and implementing the financial accountability and controllership framework, which includes setting policies, standards, and systems. The role involves providing financial services, offering advice, and delivering analytical expertise on accounting standards, financial control, and reporting requirements.Responsibilities:– Oversee accounting functions to guarantee the accuracy and completeness of financial statements and reports.
– Offer financial expertise and advice to management on financial policies, system best practices, internal controls, and accounting procedures.
– Lead the documentation of business processes.
– Recommend and implement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and precision of financial reporting.
– Develop and refine the agency’s controllership functions, including the financial accountability framework, policies, standards, and accounting practices, ensuring they incorporate effective risk management and best practices.
– Ensure effective reporting and monitoring to support controllership duties and help management meet control and reporting requirements.
– Provide expertise and guidance to senior management on financial controllership policies, best practices, and related matters.Requirements:– A university degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance is preferred.
– Professional accounting designation (CPA).
– A minimum of 4 to 5 years of progressive financial experience within a government or broader public sector setting.
– Proficiency in government accounting concepts, policies, and standards, including guidance from the Public Accounting Standards Board.
– Knowledge of accounting and public sector standards, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial management, banking, budget allocation, financial planning, budget implementation, and expenditure forecasting and reporting.
– Understanding of principles, policies, and practices related to financial administration and processing.
– Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with shifting demands.
– Ability to apply strategic and critical financial thinking to analyze and interpret financial data and information.
