We are devoted to making “Safety… Our Way of Life”.SummaryUnder the direction of the Finance Manager – Corporate, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Corporate Accounting department of the Fort McKay Group of Companies. The incumbent will work closely with Finance Management to accomplish the company’s goals and objectives based on the business and partnership plans.Key Focus

  • Supervise and provide leadership support to the Junior Accountant
  • Assist with accounting and analysis for non-managed equity investments
  • Prepare and Review journal entries with supporting documentation to meet the monthly close requirements
  • Prepare and review analysis of various balance sheet and income statement accounts and make recommendations
  • Prepare and review monthly reconciliations and financial analysis worksheets to identify unusual items for follow-up with Finance Manager – Corporate
  • Prepare and review government remittances, ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Generate accurate and timely monthly reports
  • Participate and contribute to process documentation and improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and standardize process improvements related to their tasks
  • Assist the Finance Manager – Corporate with other reconciliation and month end duties, as required
  • Assist the Senior Fixed Asset Accountant with other duties, as required
  • Assist with the external audit company on the interim and year end audit
  • Notify and report to senior management concerning any trends noted that are critical to the organization’s financial performance.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • High School Diploma required. Working towards a professional accounting designation
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Experience in SAP and/or Power Bi is considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in the Oil/Gas or Mining industry in a Finance or Accounting role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of full cycle Accounting practices and IFRS accounting guidelines
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions
  • Demonstrated aptitude with different software systems
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills
  • Strong attention to detail with an exceptional level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask, as well as work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates continuous learning through cross-training, learning new skills, and refreshing prior skills.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including personal safety, safety of co-workers, and the protection of FMGOC and client’s property in accordance and compliance with company practices, industry standards, and government regulations.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a strong ability to foster effective time management practices to others.

This is a full time position located at the FMGOC satellite office in Fort McMurray, AB.Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.What we offer:
