The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership competencies and play a key role in identifying, recommending, and implementing efficiencies, while balancing individual tasks and responsibilities.Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate current processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiencies
  • Prepare timely and accurate journal entries
  • Prepare timely and accurate account reconciliations
  • Review account reconciliations prepared by other staff
  • Prepare and analyze management reports, financial statements, and special projects, which are analytical in nature
  • Interpret and advise management on financial issues as required
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams to review, implement, and/or enhance business processes and reporting
  • Prepare and coordinate information for the year-end audit
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls policies and procedures, proposing improvements if necessary
  • Provide guidance to team members, support problem-solving, and clarify expectations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specific Skills:

  • Advanced MS Excel skills and intermediate level MS Office skills
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting systems
  • Knowledge of fixed asset accounting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles (ASPE) and internal controls
  • Capable of confidently communicating financial and non-financial information to all levels of management
  • Skilled in providing input to and managing departmental or large project budgets
  • Proficient in making financial decisions that impact the department and potentially other groups
  • Adept at applying business financial concepts and measures to conduct moderately complex analyses and recommend the best course of action.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • University degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • 5-10 years of related experience in a financial environment or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to build stable working relationships internally with other departments to understand and address their needs.
  • Capable of analyzing data from multiple sources and applying a logical process to solve problems and determine the best course of action.
