This position is accountable for accurate and timely financial reporting and mentorship to others in the department. This position is required to interpret business transactions to create information for business decision makers to assess performance and results, as well as being a main resource for ICOFR implementation, training, and monitoring. It requires a high level of technical knowledge, initiative, creativity, and working without day-to-day direction. The Senior Accountant also continuously looks for efficiencies and ways to support and become a leader for the junior members of the team.More specifically, the scope of your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of IFRS and ensure standards are being appropriately applied on a day-to-day basis and in Financial Statement disclosures
  • Working knowledge of building Financial Statements and Disclosures
  • General working knowledge of internal controls (COSO framework) over financial reporting to be able to help with the maintenance, training and monitoring of controls. This could include working within the department and with other departments to aid in the understanding of responsibilities. As well, an aptitude and ability to learn and apply the COSO framework and actively participate in assessment, recommendations and monitoring.
  • In depth knowledge in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, One Note, Teams etc.
  • Maintain/create process and procedure documents and provide feedback to junior staff on their work in this area
  • High level of investigative skills to complete work including identification of variances, ability to research items and prepare a proposed solution to resolve variance or error
  • High level of analytic skills to assess patterns of errors, trending and metrics and communicate the findings
  • Ability to see where process improvements can be made to create efficiency or to add value
  • Assist in training, coaching and leading junior team members
  • Understand change and the reasons for it and assist management in rolling out change to the rest of the team to be able to assist with change management within and outside the team
  • Review policy documents, as requested, and provide feedback to assist with the maintenance of Accounting Policies.

Requirements:To qualify, you will need at least the following:

  • CPA Designated or within 1 year of designation.
  • OR, Equivalent experience and proven performance ability to work at an advanced level.
  • 4 – 6 years of progressive accounting experience depending on the level of education completed.
  • Experience in preparing Financial Statements and working with Auditors.
  • Experience in Regulatory reporting.
  • Exposure to and understanding of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICOFR) and COSO framework.
