If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a strong understanding of financial processes and legislation, we encourage you to apply.What will you do?Provide technical support and training to accounting assistants and new staffPerform complex analyses and calculations for unique situationsAssist the supervisor with ongoing program reviews and file reviewsHandle escalated inquiries from accounting assistants and provide expert advice on complex mattersLiaise with other City departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of adjustmentsOversee the reconciliation and clearing of suspense accountsAudit and approve accounting entries and journal vouchersPrepare entries for soft close and year-end financial reportingProvide support for monthly/yearly forecasting and budgeting processesContribute to process improvements and document proceduresQualificationsCompletion of a two-year Accounting DiplomaA minimum of three years of accounting experienceSkills required for success:Critical thinking skills to apply analytical and conceptual skills effectivelyThe ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to explain complex mattersKnowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Public Sector Accounting Standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Time management skills to handle complex tasks under tight deadlines and shifting prioritiesAdvanced skills in using Google Applications (Docs, Sheets) is requiredDemonstrate leadership ability and strong customer focus and contribute as a positive team player in a customer focused service environmentKnowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulationsInterpersonal skills with ability to build relationships across departments and functionsEffective communication skills with courteous, positive problem solvingStrong attention to detail and focus on ensuring accuracy of workDemonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded teamEmbrace the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, and foster an environment that encourages others to do the sameApplicants may be testedWork Environment:Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.
