Reporting to the Operations Controller, the Senior Commercial Property Accountant is responsible for timely and accurate financial reporting of assigned properties as dictated by the annual accounting cycle. This role also trains and mentors junior team members while accomplishing other projects and maintaining their own portfolio. This person is highly professional, organized, and detail oriented with a focus on efficiency and timeliness. Must have the ability to problem solve, analyze data, and provide clear communication to other departments.Job Responsibilities
- Provide oversight with accounting team members to manage completion of accounting cycle checklist and deadlines;
- Contribute to the training and mentoring of Commercial Accountants;
- Provide property & tenant related accounting support to the Commercial Property Management team;
- Provide vacation coverage for the Commercial Accountants or Controller;
- Review and approve property related A/P batches;
- Review and approve online bill payments;
- Review and approval of Commercial Accountants completed tasks including but not limited to all items noted below
- Prepare or review and approve GST returns;
- Setup new buildings, units and GLA changes to commercial lease tenancies in the accounting system;
- Review and approve setup of lease tenancies in the accounting system and packages for release;
- Prepare and oversee training and review of accounts receivable statements of accounts, aged reporting and rent pulls;
- Assist with maintenance and reporting of construction accounting including job setups, WIP, closing/transfer entries and amortizations
- Prepare monthly financial and lease related property portfolio reporting Contribute to the consolidated monthly/quarterly/annual executive portfolio summary;
- Contribute to the planning and completion of annual operating cost reconciliations
- Contribute to the planning and completion of the annual forecasting and budgets
- Contribute to process improvements and project implementation;
- Assist with various ad hoc accounting tasks as requested by senior management
- Foster a strong working relationship with all team members and departments
Qualifications
- Accounting diploma is a requirement.
- 3+ years’ experience in accounting.
- Current enrollment in the CPA program would be an asset.
- Experience with Yardi Voyager would be an asset.
- Strong professional work ethic; able to work productively, with minimum supervision or collaboratively in a team.
Salary Range
