Under the general direction of the Customer Products & Policies Manager or their designate, the Senior Energy Engineer (SEE) will
be responsible for the provision of specialized engineering services information and analysis to Manitoba Hydro and its customers in
the areas of mechanical, electrical, and building science as a “Trusted Advisor” for residential, commercial, institutional, and
industrial customers. The SEE shall supervise a Team of Engineers, Technologists, and Technicians that provide technical support
for the operation of existing customer products and programs that will be developed to reduce electric peak capacity and energy
requirements. Perform complex energy calculations, operating cost comparisons and information for customers considering their
energy choices: natural gas, electricity, propane, fuel oil, bioenergy, ground or air source heat pumps, hydrogen, or any other energy
source.
Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing specialized advice and technical support to residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial
customers as well as consultants, contractors, and vendors in the area of building systems and smart building technologies.

Maintain an in-depth understanding of demand and energy rates used in both the electric, natural gas, and propane utility
businesses.

Serve as a Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) Subject Matter Expert (SME) within Manitoba
Hydro especially in the areas of Space and Water Heating and Industrial energy conversion processes related to the
application of natural gas/electric and ground/air source heat pump systems.

Act as the MH technical specialist for external communications (e.g., website) on energy use in residential, commercial, and
industrial buildings and for emerging end-uses of electricity and natural gas.

Act as the primary MH liaison with Efficiency Manitoba technical team to provide consistent/complimentary messaging to
support residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Continuously develop and maintain the working knowledge needed to accurately and effectively monitor, analyze, and
evaluate customer owned equipment energy usage such EV Chargers, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning equipment,
ground source, conventional and cold climate air source heat pumps, compressed air, refrigeration, solar PV, bioenergy,
building envelope, and industrial process equipment.

Lead team to perform ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 energy audits of customer facilities for the purpose of evaluating energy/cost
saving opportunities. Perform energy calculations in Excel, as required to compare the operating costs of all potential energy
sources using various heating and cooling equipment including air source and ground source heat pumps in residential,
commercial, and industrial customer sectors.

Create written reports and PowerPoint presentations on the energy, demand and cost savings implications related to
customer equipment and facilities based on the findings of monitoring projects.

Participate as a representative of MH on various codes, standards and inter-utility committees related to electric and natural
gas equipment and services.

Graduate of Mechanical Engineering from a university of recognized standing plus seven years experience with a minimum of
four years directly related to building and process energy systems, building enclosure/envelope and equipment and
appliances.

Must possess and maintain professional registration and membership in EGM.

Must have completed or be willing to complete the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) – Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
training program.

Must be a member or be willing to join ASHRAE Society (International) and actively participate in ASHRAE Manitoba Chapter.

Must have strong fundamental knowledge in building lighting, power, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration
systems, and thermodynamics/energy conversion calculations as well as specialized knowledge on the state of the art of
building science and enclosure.

Proven ability to analyze customer energy billing data and conduct energy audits of complex buildings and energy systems as
required to make energy, capacity, and cost saving recommendations.

Experience with AutoCAD, Building Energy Management Systems, Energy Data Software, Microsoft Word and excellent
proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Manitoba Hydro’s data systems (Enertrend, PI, SCADA, CIDB,
etc.) would be a definite asset.

Must have strong mathematics/statistics skills and an understanding/knowledge of engineering economic principles including
Life Cycle Costing.

Knowledge of Manitoba Hydro policies, natural gas, and electrical codes (both Federal and Provincial).

Proven leadership and critical thinking skills with mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.

Proven ability to work in a safe manner and safely direct the work of others. Must be available to travel to and attend
meetings.

Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $49.97-$68.46 Hourly,
$95,747.86-$131,177.28 Annually.
