The successful candidate will be a driven individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills.This role is based out of Calgary, AlbertaThe TeamThe Senior Financial Accountant will join a collaborative and supportive team that values effective communication and knowledge-sharing. This role involves close interaction with stakeholders across various departments, creating a highly engaging atmosphere where team members support each other to achieve shared financial goals.Work EnvironmentThe work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring adaptability and a proactive approach to handle complex financial tasks efficiently. This role provides a balance of routine financial activities and special projects, fostering both stability and continuous learning within a structured yet evolving setting.A Day in The Life

  • Oversee/assist in the daily accounting and finance activities for the division
  • Assist in the month-end close activities
  • Assist in the interim and year-end audit – preparing audit schedules, providing information at auditor’s request, providing explanation in variances, etc.
  • Initiating and implementing process improvements
  • Assist in the monthly reporting and analysis of financial results including detailed variance review of the month’s operational results, and review/preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Provide support and financial assistance in an efficient and timely manner to various stakeholders
  • Lead and/or support special projects such as IFRS standards implementation, complex accounting issues analysis and internal control process updates
  • Preparation of ad-hoc financial information

Skills, Experience, & Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience
  • A CPA designation is required
  • Experience in a public accounting firm is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS is required
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls framework and testing processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Advanced Excel skills

The following are considered assets in this role:

  • Experience in oil and gas industry is an asset but not required
  • Knowledge in the use of D365 and related reporting tools (Solver, PowerBI)
  • Adaptable and ability to work in fast paced environment
