Please proceed using the link:POSITION OVERVIEW: Startec Corporate Services is currently recruiting for a Senior Financial Analyst to work at our Shepard office location (9423 Shepard Road SE. Calgary, Alberta T2C 4R6). The Financial Analyst supports Startec’s financial decision-making by providing detailed analysis, modeling, and insights. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role involves developing financial models, evaluating scenarios, and guiding strategic planning. The Financial Analyst assesses investments, capital expenditures, and associated risks while driving cost optimization efforts. By monitoring key performance indicators and preparing reports, they ensure Startec’s financial health and the successful execution of business strategies.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):FINANCIAL ANALYSIS & REPORTING (Weighting 50%)Data & Variance Analysis
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, patterns, and improvement opportunities.
- Use statistical methods and ratios to assess financial health.
- Perform variance analysis, explaining deviations from budgets and forecasts to management.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with month-end close, review junior staff’s work, and support internal and external reviews.
- Produce accurate financial reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate key metrics and insights to stakeholders.
- Develop presentations to effectively share financial findings and recommendations.
- Provide regular reporting to key partners.
Ad Hoc Analysis
- Generate ad hoc reports and analyses to address specific business inquiries and challenges.
- Provide timely, accurate, and relevant information to aid in decision-making processes
BUDGETING & FORECASTING (Weighting 20%)Budget & Forecasting Development
- Collaborate with departments to develop accurate annual budgets and periodic forecasts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Monitor performance against budgets/forecasts, analyze variances, and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
- Prepare and present budget and forecast analyses, advising on strategies to realign performance with targets.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Define, track, and analyze KPIs to assess financial performance, operational efficiency, and business success.
- Use statistical techniques to ensure KPI accuracy and identify trends, shifts, and deviations from benchmarks.
- Create comprehensive reports and visualizations to communicate insights and recommend corrective actions.
FINANCIAL MODELING & INVESTMENT ANALYSIS (Weighting 15%)Strategic Financial Analysis
- Develop and maintain accurate financial models to simulate scenarios and project outcomes.
- Integrate key financial data, variables, and assumptions into models, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Conduct sensitivity analyses to evaluate the impact of variable changes on financial results.
- Assess capital and cash flow structures, providing insights into their financial implications.
- Use financial models to analyze the outcomes of various strategies and decisions on overall financial health..
Investment Evaluation & Decision- Support
- Conduct due diligence on investment opportunities and capital expenditure proposals.
- Evaluate financial statements, market trends, and industry benchmarks to identify risks and returns.
- Perform risk-return assessments to quantify potential benefits and risks.
- Create investment-specific models incorporating financial metrics, cash flows, and projected returns.
- Generate and present financial analyses and reports to stakeholders, offering recommendations for informed decision-making.
COST ANALYSIS & OPTIMIZATION (Weighting 15%)Financial Efficiency Analysis
- Analyze cost structures to identify inefficiencies, waste, and opportunities for optimization.
- Identify bottlenecks and redundancies driving higher costs.
- Quantify potential cost savings and efficiency gains for each initiative.
- Estimate ROI for proposed process improvements and cost-saving efforts.
- Provide recommendations to maximize savings without compromising quality.
Collaboration & Monitoring
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement cost-reduction initiatives.
- Use financial insights to guide the execution of cost-saving strategies.
- Monitor KPIs related to cost control and operational effectiveness.
- Generate reports to track progress, trends, and areas requiring attention.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- CFA, CPA designation is considered an asset.
- Proven experience as a Financial Analyst or in a similar analytical role.
- Strong knowledge of financial analysis techniques, financial modeling, and forecasting.
- Proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., Excel, financial planning software, ERP systems).
- Familiarity with financial principles, accounting standards, and financial statement analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and build effective relationships.
- Proactive mindset, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of industry trends, market analysis, and competitive intelligence.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of financial implications on business decisions.
