Under the general direction of the Manager, Financial Systems, Technology and Training, the Senior Financial Systems Analyst is responsible for gathering information and documenting business system requirements through interviews with employees, managers and clients both internal and external to Financial Services and Planning.
The incumbent mentors and guides the development team on code structure to ensure performance is optimized using the Financial Information System (FIS – Banner) models. The incumbent assists with the evaluation, planning, design, development, integration and deployment of the FIS module and any related tertiary systems, including planning and developing functional specifications, interpreting release documentation, creating and performing test scripts, and the development and delivery of end user training. The incumbent defines, develops and maintains financial report specifications to support Humber’s business requirements and processes. The incumbent is accountable for the day-to-day operations of the FIS and tertiary systems security modules, and all internal security audits to ensure appropriate internal controls are adhered to. The incumbent requires excellent organizational and time management skills. As well as strong written and verbal communication skills are needed to present information to technical and non-technical staff (i.e. clients, ITS, ERP teams, colleagues).
Analytical skills are required to collect useful information from different sources, while creativity can help in developing new solutions to old problems. The incumbent plays an important role in identifying areas for business process enhancement, recommending revised procedures or policies and suggesting an implementation plan for the enhancement. The Senior Financial Systems Analyst also assists in planning for organization change that come with large scale implementations, including the change management and communications interventions which may be necessitated by such changes. The incumbent is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the FIS Integration & Security Coordinator and providing guidance and direction to the Financial Systems Analysts. The incumbent may also represent the Manager, Financial Systems, Technology and Training in systems related meetings with the capacity for decision-making.QualificationsAbout you:You are passionate about working at Ontario’s largest polytechnic college; you thrive on improving productivity and quality that contribute to team success! If this sounds like you, keep reading:EducationThe successful candidate will possess a 4 year degree/professional designation in Computer Science or Information Technology along with 5 years of progressively responsible and practical work experience in a post-secondary environment.The successful candidate must understand the post-secondary education business enough to coordinate information technology with business objectives.Experience/Skills:The successful candidate has proven experience in the design, development and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems or products. They have proven experience with implementation of enterprise resource projects (ERPs) and they have developed analytical time management and organization skills to thrive in a busy office environment with multiple and sometimes competing timelines and deliverables. The successful candidate will also have the ability to adapt to constant shifts in focus and respond to numerous and unexpected challenges in a timely manner.The successful candidate has excellent knowledge of financial transactions, flows and reporting. Cognos Analytics (or lower) business intelligence (BI) training and experience in managing and securing complex BI platforms.
The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal skills and experience in working with complex Finance Information Systems. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment to client service and can balance client requirements within policy and fiscal constraints. They have demonstrated leadership skills with experience in team development and provision of indirect supervision of staff. Preference will be given to a candidate with direct experience in the role.

  • A Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) or equivalent experience in accounting are an asset.
