We are devoted to making “Safety… Our Way of Life”.SummaryUnder the direction of the Corporate Controller, the Fixed Asset Accountant will be responsible for the accounting and reporting of all fixed assets of the Fort McKay Group of Companies. The incumbent will work closely with Finance, Operations and Fleet Management to accomplish the company’s goals and objectives based on the business and partnership plans.Key Focus

  • Fixed asset setup in SAP
  • Accounting for assets under construction.
  • Working with Fleet Management to transfer assets under construction to “in use” on a timely basis
  • Posting SMU hours to drive amortization calculations for heavy fleet
  • Prepare accruals and other journal entries for the month end close
  • Develop reporting and metrics for fleet utilization and return on investment
  • Prepare variance analysis and highlight areas of risk or opportunity for senior management by comparing budgeted $/hr metrics to actual
  • Prepare fixed asset note disclosures for year end audit
  • Support Fleet Manager with analysis on “Rent or buy” decisions and ROI for new purchases
  • Prepare internal financial statements with variance analysis
  • Prepare financial statement note disclosures for the year end audit
  • Participate and contribute to process documentation and improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and standardize process improvements related to their tasks
  • Assist the Controller with other reconciliation and month end duties, as required
  • Assist the Senior Accountant with other duties, as required
  • Notify and report to senior management concerning any trends noted that are critical to the organization’s financial performance

Skill and Knowledge Requirements

  • High School Diploma required. Professional accounting designation required
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Experience in SAP and/or Power Bi is considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in the Oil/Gas or Mining industry in a Finance or Accounting role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of full cycle Accounting practices and IFRS accounting guidelines
  • Knowledge of heavy mining fleet
  • Demonstrated aptitude with different software systems
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills
  • Strong attention to detail with an exceptional level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask, as well as work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates continuous learning through cross-training, learning new skills, and refreshing prior skills.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including personal safety, safety of co-workers, and the protection of FMGOC and client’s property in accordance and compliance with company practices, industry standards, and government regulations.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a strong ability to foster effective time management practices to others.

This is a full time positions located at the satellite office in Fort McMurray, ABShift Schedule: Monday to Friday- 8 hrs / dayWhat we offer:
