Job description: Requisition ID: 217060Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.Scotiatrust’s Indigenous Trusts Relationship Team and Centre of Expertise provide a variety of customized fiduciary, agency and custody solutions tailored to the unique needs of Indigenous communities from coast to coast to coast.As the Senior Manager, Indigenous Trust Services, you are a core member of the Scotiatrust team, leading the Indigenous Trusts Relationship Team based in Calgary and a subject-matter expert for the Indigenous Trusts Centre of Expertise which operates on a national scale. You drive efforts to acquire, deepen, and strengthen Indigenous client relationships, collaborating with colleagues across the enterprise to identify opportunities and present a compelling and coordinated service offering. In doing so, you provide Indigenous Trust clients with tailored solutions that consider and respect their unique needs and the cultural nuances that exist within each Indigenous community we serve. You will also oversee the team of Trust Officers and Associates that administer these accounts, ensuring we deliver a consistently high level of client service and retain and grow those relationships.Is this role right for you? This role:

  • Develops and onboards new Indigenous business to Scotiatrust by:
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities to build and enhance Scotiatrust’s profile and its relationships with Indigenous communities across our national footprint;
  • Establishing and enhancing client acquisition and retention strategies, maintaining a prospect pipeline to generate sustainable growth;
  • Fostering deep relationships with internal partners and external COIs to support the achievement of the Team’s objectives; and
  • Collaborating with partners across the Bank to deliver a coordinated sales and onboarding experience to Indigenous prospects and clients that meet the unique needs of each community.
  • Leads the service delivery in support of Scotiatrust’s Indigenous accounts in Western Region by:
  • Providing direction, guidance, and coaching to Trust Officers and Associates who manage Indigenous trust accounts, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to meet client needs;
  • Achieving defined revenue and engagement goals and efficiently managing the team’s non-recoverable operating expenses;
  • Participating in various client and account activities, such as community information sessions, trustee meetings, and engaging with community leadership as needed; and
  • Coordinating with other Scotiatrust leaders across the country whose teams are involved in the servicing of Indigenous trusts to ensure consistency and alignment, as well as to leverage our combined capabilities across our footprint.
  • Drives the ongoing improvement and operational excellence of the Indigenous Trust business by:
  • Acting as change agent in relation to implementing and updating policies, procedures and practices that recognize the unique needs and lived realities of our diverse Indigenous clientele;
  • Assuring the quality of the team’s activities and limiting corporate risk exposure in the team’s day-to-day operations; and
  • Pursuing efficient operations while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet operational, regulatory compliance, AML/ATF and conduct risk pursuant to the Bank’s internal controls and frameworks.
  • Provides visible leadership and advocacy in support of Indigenous communities – within the Bank, among those communities, and in the general marketplace by:
  • Partnering with Marketing and Scotiatrust colleagues to develop and execute marketing activities, including sponsorships, that raise awareness of Scotiatrust’s capabilities in the Indigenous space;
  • Participating in educational forums that increase Scotiabankers’ collective knowledge around the history and unique issues surrounding Indigenous communities;
  • Attending various events that promote greater awareness and knowledge of issues relevant to Indigenous communities; and
  • Supporting Scotiabank’s ability to deliver on its Truth & Reconciliation commitments.
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • In-depth and broad-based experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Robust experience in the administration of trusts
  • Knowledge and technical proficiency related to the role of fiduciaries, wealth management principles and trust accounting
  • Proven sales success and leadership competencies, including influencing and communication skills
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma
  • University degree in law, finance, business administration or accounting, an asset
  • Professional accreditation, such as LLB or CA, CPA, would be desirable
