Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist – Brampton, ON

This is a Full-Time position – Tuesday to Saturday from 12 am to 8am.

Reporting to the Manager, Core Laboratory. You will be responsible for managing MLT’s and Clinical Lab assistants except for performance management. You will provide troubleshooting and theoretical guidance/advice to the department and will assist the Manager in day to day Chemistry operation.

Responsibilities:

• Using extensive operational knowledge and skilled application, the candidate’s key accountabilities include:
• Provides in-depth technical expertise in the department and/or refers to appropriate technical expertise where necessary
• Provides project leadership for implementing initiatives as required that have a time span less than 3 month in duration
• Provides advice, technical support and guidance to MLT’s, CLA’s and others as needed (e.g. troubleshooting)
• Shares knowledge and expertise by teaching and training staff and skill development of new team members as requested. Ensures and oversees that all required training is completed and documented according to department procedure, as required
• Provide guidance on maintaining, fine-tuning and troubleshoot techniques
• Assist the Manager in coordinating workflow, staff training, scheduling and evaluation as instructed.
• Ensure the efficient operation and functionality of the Clinical Core Laboratory in conjunction with the Manager.
• Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
• Required to provide coverage for Shift Manager, MLT’s and/or CLA’s as required. Assists with proper scheduling and staffing including weekends, responsible for data entry of time cards and BI tools

• Required to assist/ participate in results verification and reports approval. Responsible for ensuring all STAT, abnormal and critical reports are handled as outlined in department guidelines
• Responsible for liaising with various departments to effect resolution of all client requests, problems and inquiries. Reports all unresolved issues to the Department Manager and or Director of the Core Lab
• Ensure that standards for technical efficiency, quality control, Ministry of Health and other government regulations are adhered to.
• Work collaboratively with CD&QA on testing validation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of technology.
• Coordinate with staff and acquaint/orientate students and new employees as required.

• Provide guidance and report to Manager any investigation, documentation and implementation of preventative measures for all workplace accidents, injuries, and hazards.

 Must have:

• 5 ₊ years related experience working in a laboratory environment.
• CMLTO Registration as a practicing Medical Laboratory Technologist in good standing
• Proficient in MS office, excellent computer and keyboarding skills
• Familiarity (theory and practical hands on experience) with method development, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Dealing with concerns from doctors
• Ability to develop solutions independently to problems with no set guidelines to follow
• Communicate to the Manager non-routine situations
• Use good judgement in problem solving and building a strong team
• Able to work without direct supervision
