Job description: UNIT PROFILE:
COAST (Crisis Outreach and Support Team) is a program supported by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton that provides emergency mental health and addiction services to members of the Hamilton community. As a leader in mental health and addiction COAST works with a multidisciplinary team, including child and youth crisis workers, mental health workers, social workers and police officers to help individuals overcome mental health crises.POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Coast Senior Mental Health Worker will be to provide administrative assistance to program management and act as a subject matter expert by providing assistance to clinical staff in regards to direct clinical service delivery of crisis services to clients. The Senior Mental Health Worker will provide education and resources to COAST staff and the Hamilton and Halton MCRRT teams.QUALIFICATIONS:
- Health Regulated Professional with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Nursing with exceptional mental health and addiction clinical skills
- Current registration with your college in good standing: College of Nurses (RN), Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
- Preference given to candidates with at least five years clinical and leadership experience working in mental health in the community
- Must have proven leadership ability related to Mental Health, and at least 5 years of working in a Crisis Service. Experience in providing educational activities to the community and police services
- Experience in crisis intervention techniques and theory based practice with the seriously mentally ill. Demonstrated ability to use non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
- Knowledge and experience working with clients with mood disorders, substance issues, acquired brain injury, intellectual disabilities and psychotic related illnesses
- A good understanding of the Mental Health Act, Police Services and knowledge of family and social systems
- Must possess the ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and other agencies in the community. Ability to work with police and senior police personnel, the court system, and inpatient and outpatient mental health systems.
- A valid driver’s license is required
- Computer skills are a requirement of the position for presentations, documentation, data collection, and research activities
- French language skill and an ability to work with a culturally diverse population would be an asset
- Ability to market the COAST program in its entirety in the community, and work as a mentor with other COAST staff
- Commitment to ongoing professional development. Staff are encouraged to participate in activities with other organizations and with the community for development purposes and for maintaining and fostering relationships
Note: The selection and placement of a Senior Mental Health Worker to the Crisis Response Branch will be conditional upon the completion and clearance of a police records check to the satisfaction of the Police Services.PLEASE NOTE:
