Learn more about our Purpose and what drives us by visiting our Who We Are page.Reporting to the Accounting Manager, Corporate Finance the Senior Office Accountant, Canada Payroll is an integral part of the payroll team supporting the development, maintenance, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s payroll. The Senior Office Accountant will be responsible for the testing of updates in the current payroll system, as well as implementation & testing of new programs. Additionally, this role will be responsible for training and supervising the Payroll Administrators.Duties & Responsibilities:

• Diligently test updates to payroll software, ensuring accuracy and functionality.
• Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of payroll systems to meet evolving needs.
• Oversee the management of the payroll team, ensuring timely and accurate processing, and training on hourly benefit remittances. Responsible for guiding team members (2-3 direct reports), managing their work assignments, distributing workload, ensuring performance standards are met, and providing support and feedback to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly cycle of payroll across multiple provinces.
• Keep Job Aids updated to facilitate smooth payroll operations.
• Maintain auto-benefits records for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Perform regular reconciliation of accounts to ensure financial accuracy.
• Handle benefit remittances as required.
• Offer support during absences to ensure continuity of operations.
• Prepare and deliver reports as necessary to support decision-making processes.
• Work closely with the Payroll team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
• Actively engage in opportunities to develop leadership skills.
• Other duties as required and/or assigned.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail.
• Proficiency in relevant software and systems.
• Handles confidential and sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing payroll processes.
• Builds positive relationships with employees, delivering exceptional customer service.
• Experience with eCMS, Workday, and ROE web platforms.
• Familiarity with payroll intricacies specific to the construction sector.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years HR and/or Payroll experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Post-Secondary diploma or degree in Accounting or Business Administration considered an asset.
• Professional certification through the National Payroll Institute is an asset.
• Exposure or understanding of principles of lean thinking.
• Experience with coaching teams in collaborative planning.
• Experience with continuous improvement.
