Your future starts now at Empower Simcoe!We are presently accepting resumes for 1 Full-Time Permanent Senior Support Worker to work in our group homes in Barrie. This position provides supportive services to meet the needs of the people in accordance with the policies and procedures of Empower Simcoe and legislative requirements in the Accommodation program in Barrie utilizing the Personal Outcomes philosophy. The Senior Support Worker provides leadership and direction to staff by assigning and prioritizing duties and assignments in consultation with the Supervisor. This position works up to 37.5 hours/week.Compensation Package:

  • Additional hours may be available with a minimum rate of pay of $28.45/hour;
  • 11 paid Statutory Holidays;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Developmental Service Worker Diploma or an acceptable educational equivalency (Child and Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, Social Service Worker, Nursing, Psychology, etc.) as determined by the employer is required;
  • Candidates who have a completed Degree or Diploma from an accredited college or university in an unrelated field must have 2 years full-time work experience directly supporting people;

  • Minimum one-year recent full-time work experience working in a group living setting providing support for persons with intellectual disability is required;
  • Valid class “G” driver’s license and own reliable transportation is required to be used in the course of employment;
  • Current valid certificates and a demonstrated proficiency in First Aid, C.P.R., N.V.C.I. and medication dispensing or successful completion of a recognized pharmacology course is required;
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, conflict resolution, communication, listening and interpersonal skills required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook;
  • Understanding of the Agency’s principles and a demonstrated ability in supporting individuals to meet their personal support outcomes is essential;
  • Must be prepared to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Role/Duties:

  • Using a Personal Outcome Measures lens, act as the primary support person and lead support staff for people residing in the home;
  • Supporting people to develop and realize individualized goals through the Individual Support Planning process in accordance with the desire of the person and in conjunction with the Supports and Services Supervisor;
  • Completing all required documentation in a timely and effective manner,
  • Providing guidance and direct support in areas identified as necessary related to activities of daily living, personal care, communication, emotional, physical and mental health, safety, finances, relationship development in an effort to foster independence
  • Assessing and planning effectively for people’s changing support needs and making necessary referrals to community resources
  • Encouraging and supporting people in becoming active members of their community and assisting them with exercising full rights of citizenship
  • Connecting people to resources & programs in the community based on their interests
