AXA XL are committed to a carbon net zero future.Our Canadian Construction and Energy Transition underwriting team is looking to add a Constuction and Energy Transition underwriter.Using your in-depth underwriting expertise, you will tailor effective solutions for our current and prospective clients, partnering with dedicated industry experts who have an average of 15+ years of construction industry risk management experience. You will also have the support of highly qualified and experienced risk engineers to keep abreast of the latest developments and actuaries to help you quantify and price risks and will be working alongside an established team of Construction and Energy UnderwritersThe role requires a significant amount of interaction with clients, brokers and internal stakeholders and the right candidate should be able to draw upon a solid background of technical underwriting expertise in Constuction and Energy risks underwriting. - Developing and structuring tailor-made solutions by considering the Underwriting guidelines and Underwriting policy to win new business and retain existing customers.
- Reviewing of submissions, terms and conditions, statement of values, loss history and catastrophic modeling and conducting appropriate research to determine the degree of risk for each account based upon company Guidelines and underwriting authority granted
- Coordinating with varied business divisions including Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, Accounting, Marketing, Risk Engineering, Regulatory and others internally, that support our businesses
- Determining quote or declination of risk.
- Calculating rates and premium charges using approved rating models.
- Developing and modifying policy wording in accordance with delegated underwriting authority when the standard forms are not appropriate.
- Actively cross-sell afforded products and services.
- Supporting service standards in delivery of Construction and Energy products and services.
- Marketing to producers to secure new and renewal business and initiate opportunities for cross-selling within your unit and across all lines of business in Canada
- The role may have a responsibility for the development of skills, knowledge and competencies of less experienced colleagues.
- Working effectively with other members of your team.
- Leadership and involvement in special projects as assigned by management.
In this role you will report to the Head of Construction and Energy at AXA XL, Toronto, Canada. The Candidate can be located in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver or Montreal.QualificationsSHARE your talentWe’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Extensive Construction Property (Builders Risk) and Operational Energy (Renewables, Power etc.) Property Underwriting Experience
- Work independently with the ability to be an open-minded team player with a willingness to actively listen to and comprehend unique circumstances that require practical and unique solutions to complex issues.
- Robust insured and broker interaction with the ability to effectively target current and prospective contacts in order to effectively promote offered products.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to work with both internal teams and external brokers as you will work in a team environment, assisting other underwriters as part of their overall responsibility.
- Excellent organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills.
- Excellent comprehension and work experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual (English/ French) Skills are an asset
- Knowledge of Primary Casualty including Wrap-Ups and Excess and Umbrella liability is a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree required with advanced education and / or professional designations including but not limited to FCIP, CRIS preferred but not required.
- Willingness to travel (approximately 25% travel as necessary) within Canada and the USA
