Job description: DescriptionThis position exists to support guests in our shelter programs and to work with fellow teammates to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare, police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking urine samples, doing bed checks, room/personal searches
  • Performs internal and external inspection/security checks of the building, property and grounds
  • Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies enforces behaviour-based restrictions outlined by caseworkers or supervisory staff
  • May serve as Receptionist for Shelter – Answers phones, takes messages, responds to community inquiring and directs incoming requests
  • Consistently demonstrates respect and empathy for all guests
  • Maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support
  • May handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets, and receipting of same
  • May prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residents
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings
  • Coordinates guest care relating to security issues
  • May perform janitorial duties and light food services duties
  • Performs other assigned duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred applicant will have completed at least 2 years of Community College in Social Services
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • First Aid Level 1 and CPR Certification
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset

HOURS: Saturday – Sunday 11:00 pm – 7:30 amPREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean driver’s abstract.
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
