Assists patients and their families with practical problems and personal concerns and consults with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patients’ situation.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceBachelor of Social Work degree (B.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work, however a Master’s degree (M.S.W.) is preferred. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.Skills And Abilities

Discuss your eligibility with a recruiter today! Currently this Bachelors and Masters Degree of Social Work position is located on the Neurosciences unit at the Victoria General Hospital. Previous experience working in this clinical area will be an asset. The Social Worker works in team based care – providing social work services in planning complex discharges with clients and their families. Clients admitted to this unit have sustained a brain injury, spinal cord injury, a cancer diagnosis or other traumas that impact their lives both physically and cognitively. Services include short term counselling related to grief and loss, adjustment to diagnosis and change of health status, support to accessing resources (financial, equipment, programs/housing) and services to return to the community as well as complex discharge planning. All social workers in hospital are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene in all matters related to Adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social Workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in matters pertaining to child protection. As stated in the job description, this position requires current and active registration with the BC College of Social Workers
