Assists patients and their families with practical problems and personal concerns and consults with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patients’ situation.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceBachelor of Social Work degree (B.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work, however a Master’s degree (M.S.W.) is preferred. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.Skills And Abilities

Link to Full Job DescriptionAdditional information for applicantsCurrently this bachelor and/or masters degree of social work position is located on a general medical and inpatient renal unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital . Social Workers work in team-based care on a inter-professional health care team and work with a variety of clients and their families on complex discharge planning to return clients to their home communities. Previous experience working in acute care will be an asset. Social workers provide short-term supportive counselling, assist clients and their families with resource allocation including applications for housing, financial and other needs. They make referrals to other resources to support clients returning back to their community. Complex discharge planning is part of the role of the social worker with the health care team and client. All social workers are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene in all matters related to Adult Abuse, neglect or Self-Neglect. Social workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in matters related to child protection.
