We’re hiring a Specialist Geomechanical Engineer to lead geomechanical modelling work to support the development and operation of In Situ projects. In this role, you will contribute as part of a Geomechanical team to caprock assessment in support safe SAGD development and operation.Minimum Requirements:
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field
- Geomechanical modelling experience; preferably specific to in situ thermal operations
- Strong technical skills in Geomechanical modelling
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Key Accountabilities:
- Design micro-frac testing programs to estimate formation closure stress in key areas of the field and support execution of micro-frac tests during winter program operations
- Design and support representative lab tests to understand rock properties and rock mechanics
- Build statistically representative simulation grids using the Petrel earth model
- Numerical simulation using Intersect software to understand caprock behavior and support the assignment of safe Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP)
- Follow and improve upon Suncor processes, workflows, and technical procedures
- Effectively communicate results to management and project stakeholders
- Understand and steward compliance with regulatory directives
- Provide technical support for numerous subsurface projects being evaluated and implemented

- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
