This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.Reporting to the Director, Fleet Leasing and Transactions, the Senior Specialist will partner with other members of the WestJet Treasury team on the ongoing management of the WestJet Group aircraft lease portfolio, existing and new asset financing transactions and overall fleet management.Responsibilities

  • Partner with internal and external parties (legal, operations, management, lessors, and credit partners) on the ongoing management of the WestJet Group aircraft lease portfolio and financing agreements with a focus on contract compliance and fulfillment
  • Proactively monitor and report compliance with aircraft lease agreements including but not limited to planning for and acting upon key contract milestones, lease expiries and notification timelines
  • Negotiate, document and record new leases extensions and other amendments including relevant customs and regulatory filings
  • Provide contract support for aircraft retirement activities and assist with the aircraft transition and closing process
  • Identify process improvements and develop procedures and metrics for the management of aircraft lease agreements through the life cycle
  • Assist with the sourcing, analysis and negotiation of additional asset financing transactions based on knowledge of WestJet’s preferred contractual terms
  • Provide analytical support for discussions with aircraft manufacturers and management of existing agreements
  • Work closely with members of the Finance and Accounting teams on the accurate reporting and forecasting of fleet transactions

Requirements

  • High attention to detail but an equally important ability to see the big picture. Effectively manage tasks with minimal supervision while ensuring alignment with the group’s overall goals and objectives
  • Strong sense of ownership, curiosity and ability to think critically
  • Organized and thorough, with a desire for continuous improvement
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet tight timelines in an environment with a high volume of activity. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks independently while meeting deadlines
  • At least five years of practical experience with the negotiation and execution of financing arrangements and other contractual agreements and the management thereof
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization
  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Business/Finance, CFA designation and/or airline experience considered an asset
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and a keen interest in learning new technology
