Job description: Who we’re looking forWe are looking for the next member of our outstanding Finance team! The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing various accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and administrative tasks. This role requires proficient Excel skills, accuracy, efficiency, and the ability to handle a high volume of transactions.What you’ll do

  • Accounts Payable
  • Process employee expense reports via Expensify, create reports for specific employees, ensure data accuracy, including GST/HST amounts, process reimbursements with payroll, and record entries in QuickBooks (QB).
  • Review and approve vendor invoices, book transactions into QB, prepare checks, and handle credit card payments.
  • Review credit card transactions, collect and save receipts, reconcile monthly statements, and manage specific travel and entertainment expenses, ensuring proper GST/HST claims.
  • Accounts Receivable: Process client payments via checks and wire transfers, book payments in QB, manage deposit slips, and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Payroll
  • Run bi-weekly payroll using Payment Evolution, including calculating salaries, processing employee expenses, bonuses/commissions, stipends, etc. Ensure timely processing with special consideration for holidays.
  • Adjust payroll for new hires, terminations, and changes in health benefit premiums. Manage extended health deductions and other employee-specific payroll adjustments.
  • Approve and process employee expense reimbursements through payroll, mark expenses as reimbursed in Expensify, and export reports to QB.
  • Prepare and submit T4 slips and summaries at year-end. Ensure accuracy and compliance with CRA requirements and assist employees with any $4-related inquiries.
  • Month-End Close
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including regulatory filings for business licenses, GST/PST, EHT, insurance, WorkSafe BC, and annual corporate matters.
  • Ensure all accounts are reconciled, including bank accounts, payroll accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and book necessary journal entries for accruals, prepaids, and other month-end adjustments.
  • Other/Miscellaneous
  • Maintain and update the vendor list with new and existing vendors.
  • Complete general and administrative tasks as necessary
  • Support the vision and values of the company.
  • Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested.

Skills you’ll need

  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar accounting role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Expensify, and Payment Evolution preferred
  • Knowledge of Canadian GST/HST/PST/EHT regulations and payroll processing preferred

The pay range for this part-time (32 hours per week) position is $30 – $38 CAD per hour.Actual offers may be higher or lower than this range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and education.
