Job description: T he Senior Supervisor Engineering and Facilities Operations serves as a first-line supervisor directing the work of employees. This position is responsible to:– Coordinate (Preventive/Corrective) maintenance, Help Desk Service Events and Emergency Response at the EMSF and ECLRT System Infrastructure by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, inspecting, testing and/or directing the work of Facility Maintenance Technicians.
– Manage the completion of Helpdesk calls to meet PA obligations.
– During emergency situations, the supervisor is expected to direct staff in the support of corrective efforts and provide management support in troubleshooting and repairs. Manage spare parts
– Manage all aspects of work performed by the various building trades and areas of specialization, such as but not limited to electrical maintenance, fire suppression, fire system safety, plumbing, mechanical maintenance, HVAC, miscellaneous trades
– Confirm work specifications with building codes
– Inspect work progress at to ensure proper specifications, quality assurance, safety protocols and SOP’s are followed
– Plan materials and labour based on work
– Maintain proper tools, PPE, supplies, materials, etc. to perform the work
– Maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence relative to the work
– Co-ordinate contracts to ensure contractor work is completed and meets specified requirements
– Identify employee development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained
– Evaluate performance through annual performance reviews
– Perform tasks on an as needed basisSkills, Knowledge and Experience:
– Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance and management procedures and techniques applicable to the preventative maintenance, repair, maintenance of building facilities
– Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Environment Regulations, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code
– Ability to plan and direct activities of a skilled and semi-skilled workforce; previous supervisory experience is an asset
– Sound judgement, problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills which includes excellent verbal and written communication skills
– Valid, non-probationary, Ontario Class “G” driver’s license
– Community College diploma or a Certificate of Qualification in a skilled construction trade combined with several years of related work experience in a similar environmentConsequences of Error:
Improper direction and/or instruction on site could result to delays in schedules, material wastage,
increased costs related to labour time lost due to re-work. Significant errors could result in significant
injury or monetary losses to CTSM, its employees and customers.This position is designated as Safety-Sensitive under CTSMPs Fitness for Duty Policy. ‘ This means that the incumbent may be subject to Drug and Alcohol testing when there are reasonable grounds or post-incident in specific circumstances, such as where there has been a link established between impairment
and performing Safety-Sensitive job tasks.Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
Considerable time spent outside of the office environment. Travel to and from various work sites. May
be required to work outdoors and be exposed to inclement weather. Frequent walking, standing,
climbing, working in tunnels, small or elevated spaces, lifting, etc. Exposure to track level and construction
hazards, dirt, etc.Reporting Relationships (Direct/Indirect):
Reports directly to the Engineering Manager — Facilities, with an indirect reporting to the Facilities Services
Manager.Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will be directly supervising the work of the Facility Maintenance Technicians.
