TRA is responsible for the collection of revenue and the administration of Alberta’s tax, revenue, and related benefit programs. The focus of our organization is to ensure a fair, efficient, and effective provincial tax and revenue system. If you’re ready to grow both personally and professionally (and embrace exciting new challenges along the way), we’d love to have you on our team!”The Tax Assessor is responsible for processing returns, claims, registrations, and financial accounting transactions for commodity tax and other revenue programs in accordance with legislation, policies, and procedures. This results in the fair and equitable treatment of all clients within each program. In this role, you will operate within Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure fair and equitable treatment of taxpayers.We are seeking individuals who are client-focused, have a positive attitude, and excel in teamwork. Candidates should be eager to collaborate, contribute to enhancing the team’s productivity, and bring fresh ideas to drive innovation and improvement.Reporting to the Senior Manager, Commodity, you will work on diverse programs within various Acts and Regulations including but not limited to:
- Alberta Corporate Tax Act – Insurance Premiums Tax Returns from insurance corporations
- Alberta Fuel Tax Act – returns or claims from Fuel Direct Remitters, Independent Fuel Sellers, Propane (LPG) Dealers; International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA); Alberta Indian Tax Exemption
(AITE) program
- Alberta Tobacco Tax Act – Tobacco Tax Returns from tax collectors and refunds from collectors and retailers; AITE program
- Tourism Levy Act – Tourism Levy Returns from temporary accommodation providers
- Crown’s Right of Recovery Act – Health Cost Recovery program administered for the Alberta Health Department
- Emergency 911 Levy Act – 911 Levy returns from wireless telecommunication providers
- Freehold Mineral Tax Act – Freehold Mineral Tax on petroleum and natural gas mineral rights in Alberta
Assets
- Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation and policies
- Basic knowledge of generally accepted and government accounting requirements.
- Knowledge of tax, interest, and penalty calculations
- Ability to interpret/apply legislation.
- Detail oriented and high-quality standard of work produced.
- Basic knowledge of audit principles
- Work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.

- Ability to plan and prioritize.
- Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel) is also required.
Success in this role requires well-developed organization, communication, and strong analysis skills that will enable you to educate clients on the different programs and their requirements; investigate, review, and analyze taxpayer/ collector situations and supporting documentation to resolve risk conditions present in assessing commodity tax returns.

Two-year diploma in Business, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, no experience required.Equivalency will be considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
