Job description: Title: Transition House Support WorkerDepartment: Community Social ServicesStatus: Part-timePay Grid: Professional ($20.90 to $29.45 per hour ) + $3/hr shift premium when working nightsReporting to: Transition House SupervisorSummary of Duties:Reporting to the Transition House Supervisor, the Transition House Support Worker is responsible to provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter services for First Nation community members.Key Deliverables and Expectations:

  • Maintain general upkeep of the building and cleaning.
  • Assisting residents with services within the self-contained Transition Home (ex. kitchen, laundry, assisting clients with caring their personal belongings into their room, unloading food delivery into the transition home, etc)
  • Refer clients to other social services or assist them in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical, and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, daycare, schooling, counseling, etc.
  • Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems
  • Tracking clients’ behavioural changes and responses to interventions through daily charting
  • Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall progress
  • Transportation to and from appointments within and outside of the community
  • Assist with the intake process and reports for new residents
  • Participate in the development and implementation of safety plans
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes:

  • Completion of a college or university program in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology or other social science or health-related discipline is an asset
  • Previous work experience in a social service environment as a volunteer or in a support capacity may replace formal education requirements
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, mediate, manage aggressive behaviour, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
  • Strong organizational & multi-tasking skills, meticulous attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Must have knowledge of Lil’wat Nation and surrounding First Nations communities and their respective culture and protocols.
  • Knowledge of systemic issues that may affect families facing domestic violence issues (ex. Lateral violence, trauma-informed lens, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs an asset
  • Current First Aid, Food Safe, and WHMIS an asset
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, that allows for day, evening & overnight work (shift premium of $3/hr for overnight shift.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including lifting up to 25lbs.
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
  • Must possess a Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and have a clean Driver’s Abstract

Expected salary: $9 – 29.45 per hour
