Job description: Job DescriptionWGL – Senior Data EngineerThis Data Engineer role (with a focus on Microsoft Fabric) will develop cutting-edge technologies while maintaining secure, dependable, high-performance operations that adhere to compliance policies and regulations. The typical day will involve joining standup meetings, executing on work items and developing/coding as per capacity and collaborating with the Data Management team on new projects or initiatives. Beyond the usual Data Engineering responsibilities, this role will also have direct interactions with teams throughout the organization, allowing immediate product feedback.You will:

  • Extract and transform disparate data into actionable insights that will drive business decisions, while applying industry best practice transformation, modeling, DevOps and data governance techniques and validating outputs to ensure reliable and accurate results for consumption by downstream data teams and end users.
  • Drive development projects to evolve our platform and operations, leveraging the newest technologies available to us.
  • Work directly with business stakeholders to refine requirements, iterate and finalize design, deliver working proofs of concept and develop/deploy finalized data solutions.
  • Collaborate with peers and maintain flexibility on domain ownership as business priorities evolve.
  • Assist with the design, review and management of WGL’s SAP Enterprise Data Hub – HANA.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, commerce, mathematics or statistics preferred
  • 7+ Years in software and/or data engineering and the use of enterprise data platform tools within a team setting required
  • 5+ Years in Microsoft data engineering tools such as Azure Data Factory / Fabric Pipelines, Power Query / Fabric Dataflows, Synapse / Fabric Notebooks and Logic Apps / Power Automate Flows (1+ years of experience in Microsoft Fabric specifically) required
  • Strong database knowledge including SQL Databases, Azure Data Explorer/KQL Databases, Delta Lakes, Fabric lakehouses/warehouses, Power BI and medallion architecture
  • Strong ETL skillsets, including coding proficiency in Power Query M language, Python, SQL and KQL
  • Strong DevOps/Git background
  • Strong understanding of near real time data replication and different integration patterns (pub/sub, point-to-point, etc.)
  • Experience with SAP HANA would be an asset
  • Experience in multi-faceted Digital roles within Energy/Utilities business would be an asset
