Job description: Finance Accountant – External ReportingOur publicly traded energy client is seeking a Finance Accountant – External Reporting to join their team in Calgary. A successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports and disclosures for both internal and external use, including MD&A and accounting memos. The position also oversees financial reporting systems, supports internal controls and process improvements, and acts as the main liaison with external auditors.Your success will be defined by your ability to:

• Prepare and analyze financial reports and Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) for both internal and external reporting, including supporting schedules and peer benchmarking.
• Review external disclosure documents to ensure consistency and alignment across filings.
• Research, analyze, and prepare accounting memos, calculations, and disclosures for both routine and complex transactions.
• Conduct research projects related to the adoption of new accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 9 and IFRS 18) and corporate accounting policies.
• Prepare corporate journal entries and account reconciliations, including those related to leases, financial instruments, and share-based compensation.
• Support internal controls by acting as a primary contact within the organization and contributing to the design and improvement of financial processes.
• Assist with annual ESTMA filings and complete financial surveys for Statistics Canada.
• Maintain financial reporting systems and tools with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Serve as the main point of contact for external auditors during financial audits and reviews.

Your strengths include:

• Bachelor’s degree and CPA or CFE
• Strong knowledge of IFRS principles and their application in financial reporting.
• Experience with internal control over financial reporting and/or integrated audits
• Effective communication and presentation skills
• High-performing individual able to meet deadlines based on broad guidelines
• Ability to see the overall business context in which the finance group operates
• Oil & Gas experience would be an asset
