As a Financial Analyst within the Central Services branch of the Government of Alberta, you would play a critical role in driving efficiency, enhancing service delivery, and enabling strategic decision-making at the executive level. This is more than a numbers role – it is an opportunity to shape the future of financial management across ministries by contributing insights that matter.As a Financial Analyst reporting to the Manager, Business Services, you would be instrumental in supporting executive and operational leadership with financial forecasting, analysis and reporting. Your work would span across multiple branches to ensure financial accuracy, identify efficiencies, and provide trusted advisory services. This position is key to building strong relationships, ensuring accountability, and improving how public funds are managed as well as reported. • Forecasting budgets for multiple expenditure officers and analyzing financial data to inform strategic decisions.
• Providing detailed variance reporting and presenting insights to executive leadership.
• Reviewing internal controls to ensure compliance with GOA best practices and policies.
• Assisting in financial, compliance, and operational audits in coordination with the Office of the Auditor General.
• Managing cost recovery processes, including reconciliation, reporting, and invoicing for activities such as mutual aid and emergency response.
• Collaborating with expenditure officers to prepare and submit accurate budgets and forecasts.
• Conducting variance analysis and recommending budgetary solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
• Preparing evaluations and reports using trend analysis and other techniques.
• Advising clients on financial structures and compliance to improve accountability.
• Overseeing capital asset management, including coding, tracking, transfers, and disposals.

QualificationsEducation and Experience:A university degree or diploma in Business/Accounting and a minimum of 3 years of related experience in financial analysis, revenue or cost recovery or accounts receivable.Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.Additional Requirements:

• Strong understanding of project accounting and cost accounting principles.
• Solid knowledge of financial analysis practices and government financial analysis, revenue or cost recovery, or accounts receivable.

Assets:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience with ERP systems (1GX preferred).
• Familiarity with process improvement, documentation, and requirement gathering.
• Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board(PSAB) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting standards.
• Understanding of financial policies within the Ministry or broader Government of Alberta.
• Experience with working both independently and collaboratively.
• Knowledge of IT systems and Technology.
