St.Amant is guided by its core values of Collaboration, Hospitality, Excellence and Respect.Position Summary and Scope of Service*This is a term position subject to end with 2 weeks/1 pay period notice, whichever is longer**The Intermediate Accountant supports the Manager, Accounting Services, and ensures the integrity of accounting information by researching account issues for compliance and by establishing quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting. The Intermediate Accountant also completes a variety of accounting supports as required, such as the analysis of information, preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly financial statements, assists in budgeting and forecasting, account reconciliations and development or improvement of excel based files.Being a key member of the Accounting and Finance Team, the Intermediate Accountant provides effective and efficient quality customer service by ensuring all accounting principles as well as St.Amant’s policies and procedures are maintained.QualificationsEducational:
- Post-secondary education in accounting at an intermediate level or an equivalent combination of education and accounting experience
Professional:
- Intermediate to late stages of a recognized accounting program (CPA), business degree (major in accounting) or a combination of education and experience
- Two to four years of progressive accounting experience including experience at an intermediate level
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from Manager to accomplish objectives
- Previous experience in non-profit accounting an asset
- Experience with Virtuo Systems and Caseware an asset

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements including preparation and input of journal entries according to the monthly close schedule
- Analyzes revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded properly on a monthly basis
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations
- Assists in Cash Flow/Forecast analysis
- Works with senior members of the team to implement process improvements
- Verifies, allocates, posts and reconciles transactions
- Assists month-end and year-end close processes
- Participates in the financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Provides input into department’s goal-setting process
- Assists senior members of the accounting team to create complex excel files
- Analyzes budget variances and effectively communicates the results
- Ad hoc duties or other projects as assigned
- Collaborates with the Accounting Team and fosters a collaborative and problem-solving approach to process review and the implementation of improvements
- Supports the Supervisor, Financial Reporting with audit related working papers to ensure compliance.
