Job description: Title: Manager, Payroll AccountingReports To: Director, Payroll, Benefits and HRISPosition Summary: The Manager, Payroll Accounting will be part of the Payroll, Benefits and HRIS team, working closely with Corporate Accounting and regional finance teams. The incumbent will be responsible for the accurate accounting of payroll transactions, reporting, payroll analytics, and the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts. The objective is to maintain accurate and timely accounting and payroll information for internal and external reporting while conducting quantitative analysis to provide business insights to key stakeholders.Responsibilities:Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Manage budgeting and forecasting responsibilities in collaboration with corporate and regional stakeholders to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Develop and maintain systems and analyses to be able to provide insightful information into compensation.
  • Address questions and issues that arise around month-end, quarter end, and year-end around major variances, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Improve processes around compensation budgeting, forecasting, and analytics.

Payroll Accounting:

  • Oversee Payroll Accountant in:
  • Preparing payroll journal entries for each pay period, including regional and crew allocations.
  • Preparing monthly accrual journal entries and bank reconciliations.
  • Performing monthly reconciliations of WSIB and other G/L accounts.
  • Preparing monthly budget to actual variance reports and performing detailed analysis with explanations.
  • Generating monthly reporting packages for specific managers.
  • Conducting payroll analytics and creating new reports as required.
  • Performing monthly reconciliation of payroll accounts to ADP data.
  • Preparing journal entries and reports for management and analytics including the Netherlands portfolio.
  • Analysis of monthly payroll variance reports for actual vs. budget wages.
  • Responding to auditors’ requirements on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly severance accrual schedules for financial reporting
  • Support the creation and ongoing maintenance of all internal process documentation, reference materials as it relates to Payroll Accounting.
  • Provide support, training, mentoring, and development to reporting staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Plans, schedules, and directs the staff to promote efficiency in completing their job responsibilities.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of accurate financial information for business units.
  • Reports all irregularities immediately to senior management as appropriate.

StockVantage Administration:

  • Ensure accurate entry of the monthly DRIP in accordance with Finance
  • Ensure accurate update of grants issued
  • Liase with Shareholders, the Transfer Agent and the Payroll team to settle grants upon member termination or upon settlement request.
  • Onboard and offboard members as per plan documentation.
  • Liase with Finance to make quarterly updates and prepare quarter-end reports.
  • Update the Management Information Circular on an annual basis.

Special Projects:

  • Respond to Statistics Canada Business Survey as required.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Create templates and internal metrics to support business decision-making.
  • Handle ad hoc tasks as requested by senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication & writing skills to interact with all levels of an organization.
  • 3-5 years of relevant working experience with an emphasis on analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • CPA, MBA, and/or CFA designation.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and theories.
  • Previous experience with SAP, ERP, BPC and BI tools is as asset.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel (advanced level).
  • Ability to develop accurate, concise, and clear data presentations that lead to data-driven business decisions.
  • Discretion and sensitivity regarding confidential information.
  • Excellent analytical skills and proven ability to work with large volumes of data using solid quantitative skills.
  • Highly organized and adept at managing time effectively, with the ability to work under tight deadlines, multitask efficiently, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Good problem-solving skills and resourcefulness to address data issues.
  • Strong people management skills including management of remote and virtual teams.
