We take pride in our employees and place a high-value on establishing a workplace where people are challenged and respected every day.SummaryReporting to the Senior Accountant, the Job Cost Accountant is responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant in managing all financial aspects of the company’s construction operations. The Job Cost Accountant is also responsible for invoice creation.Key Responsibilities
- Assist in month end procedures, job costing analysis, job adjustments and various financial statements and reports.
- Prepare month end summary documents and assist the Senior Accountant and Controller with month end closings and review with operations personnel.
- File all material associated with invoicing and month end processes into each electronic folder.
- Consult and collaborate with other members of the company to troubleshoot issues and identify potential improvements.
- Develop, analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the various reporting divisions.
- Process all invoice requests from Project Managers in a timely manner. Deal with any miscommunications between parties to solve discrepancies.
- Work with Project Managers to ensure all revenue quantities from progress estimates are correctly entered into JDE, in order to maintain accurate Job Costing Information that the Construction and Accounting divisions can use.
- Set up construction projects in JDE and help ensure that the correct accounts are created and that the correct budgetary information is entered.
- Create any reports requested that will aid in the understanding of job data and analysis and assist in improving construction data inputs in order to improve report outputs.
- Review and enter the required month end accruals for construction activity into JDE in coherence with the appointed month end deadlines.
- Compile month end reporting packages to provide to Division Managers with summarized information regarding job performance, work on hand, outstanding receivables and outstanding holdbacks.
- Review job results and bring concerns to Project Managers and help to solve these concerns.
- Support Project Managers and other operations staff to help ensure timely and accurate entry of information into the company’s data systems (JDE, HeavyBid, HeavyJob).
- Provide support in the development and management of operational budgets.
- Other Accounting related activities as required.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
- Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
Requirements/ ExperienceEducation/ Training
- Minimum of a 4-year degree in Business, Marketing, or similar program considered an asset.
- Class 5 Drivers License is required.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in finance/ business development.
- Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Lync, Publisher, Project.

- Strong attention to detail.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work overtime as required, particularly during month end processes.
- Travel may be required on occasion, and may consist of overnight stays.
- Attend and conduct presentations on occasion.
- Work is performed in an indoor setting and may included a combination of standing, sitting and walking. Computer use is required, resulting in blue light exposure and wrist dexterity.
- Must be physically able to lift and carry at least 10LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
