This role is ideal for a finance professional with strong technical accounting knowledge and a passion for continuous improvement in financial reporting processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing and enhancing quarterly and annual external disclosures, supporting audit processes, and contributing to regulatory compliance initiatives.This role involves preparing and reviewing financial statements in compliance with IFRS and regulatory standards, while supporting audit processes and regulatory filings. It emphasizes automation and analytics to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency. The position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, collaboration across departments, and contributions to internal controls and special projects. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior staff and providing expert guidance on complex financial issues.Minimum Requirements:CPA designation (or equivalent) required.Minimum 5–9 years of progressive experience in financial reporting, public accounting, or a related field.Strong understanding of IFRS and regulatory reporting requirements.Advanced knowledge of MS Office, Excel and SAP skills; experience with Merrill Bridge, Workiva, or similar reporting tools is considered an asset.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Demonstrates mature knowledge of work and applies it to complex problems with minimal supervision.Key Accountabilities:Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and regulatory requirements.Support the interim and year-end audit processes, including coordination with external auditors and internal stakeholders.Develop and automate analytics and disclosures to improve reporting efficiency and accuracy.Applies well developed technical knowledge in planning, conducting and coordinating increasingly more difficult assignmentsAssist in the preparation of regulatory filings and ensure compliance with applicable standards and policies.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data, validate inputs, and ensure consistency in reporting.Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting.Participate in special projects, including implementation of new accounting standards and process improvements.Make recommendations on more complex Finance / Accounting issues in consultation with colleagues.Provides mentorship and guidance to junior staff and technical advisors while collaborating effectively across departments to review work.Consults with senior specialists on complex and difficult issues.Influences / supports decisions by providing information and acting as a sounding board.Location and other Key Details:You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to FridayOur business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of workWhy Suncor?Suncor’s operations include oil sands development, production and upgrading; offshore oil and gas; petroleum refining in Canada and the U.S.; and the company’s Petro-Canada retail and wholesale distribution networks (including Canada’s Electric Highway, a coast-to-coast network of fast-charging electric vehicle stations).With a strong strategy for growth and our long-standing approach to sustainability, operational excellence, capital discipline and technology and innovation, Suncor offers a solid foundation for you to continue building your career.
