Working in a team environment, our Accounting Trust Clerk will support trust transactions for the Calgary Office in compliance with the Law Society of Alberta.The successful candidate will provide overall support to key stakeholders for all trust transactions while bringing excellent attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and utmost professionalism to the role.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processing and recording incoming and outgoing trust transactions in our financial management system.
- Preparing outgoing trust payments by cheque or wire transfer using online banking platforms for multiple banks.
- Coordinating with Partners, Legal Assistants and Finance Management, the release of trust funds to successfully close deals.
- Liaising with banks and Partners to ensure trust funds are appropriately invested and redeemed when requested, including handling deposits, wires, investments, trust fund payouts.
- Obeying strict internal control policies to mitigate both external and internal risks and threats facing the Firm, such as the Law Society.
- Identifying potentially fraudulent and abnormal requests.
- Responding to general inquiries from both internal and external sources about policies, procedures, deadlines, and status of trust transactions.
- Ensuring timely clearing of unapplied funds.
- Assisting with the return of dormant trust accounts
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma is required, with a preference for post-secondary education;
- 3 – 5 years related work experience, preferably in a professional services work environment.
- Knowledge of accounting software and banking procedures; basic knowledge of accounting principles.
- Knowledge of Aderant Expert accounting system will be considered an asset.
- Aptitude to take care of clients’ needs in a professional and courteous manner;
- Produce a high quality and quantity of work products under tight timelines;
- Handle stress in a business-appropriate manner;
- Ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential information;
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to set priorities while dealing with conflicting and emerging priorities;
- Excellent coordination and organizational skills;
- Capacity to work independently, as well as in a team environment;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with other staff and professionals;
- Strong written, oral and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent grammar and proofreading skills;
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel);
- Ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
